10 Last Call: YOU nothing ME

YOU nothing ME

An Aside:  The idea for this (structurally) came from an odd sequence of thoughts that I will spare you.  I had to insert this poem as an image, because I was not sure how on earth (even with my knowledge of html) I was going to get this to appear correctly.  Anyway...

The above poem contains fourteen visual word puzzles.  Test yourself first; see if you can read it.  If not, I have provided the audio version of the poem as well.

This is my offerings for this week's dVerse Poets Pub OpenLinkNight. If you get a chance, check out all of the talented poets who have stepped up into the spotlight.

4 Time Capsule: In the Eyes of a Friend

Title:  In the Eyes of a Friend
Date:  09/30/02
Setting:  Life after college--during second post-college job
Form:  Free Verse
In the Eyes of a Friend
In the eyes of a friend
you see yourself
a reflection
glorious and beautiful
surrounded by hopes and dreams
glowing in a light
of happiness and love
In the arms of a friend
you find yourself
cradled
snug and tight
comforted by a warmth and gentleness
strengthened in a presence
of security and love
In the heart of a friend
you find yourself
whole
smiling and laughing
held fast by thoughts of the future
wrapped in a love
that will withstand the test of time
In the tired wrinkled eyes of a friend
you will see yourself
young and beautiful
surrounded by memories
glowing in a light
of everlasting love.

Notes:  Two weeks ago for my Time Capsule post I dug up a poem called A Wedding Song:  a poem for two voices.  I noted that the year I wrote this included two wedding; my friend for whose wedding I was prompted to write it and my brother's.  While I gave both couples a copy of the poem, I felt the need to write something else for my sister-in-law.  Since, I have used this poem a couple of times for homemade cards to celebrate either a bridal shower or wedding.

This poem was written 10 years ago today.  That means that both couples will be celebrating their 10th year together.  Their eyes are not quite tired and wrinkled, but still the love there within them glows.

Artifact I:  The original write where all the you's were I's and the yourselfs were myselfs.

3 Can I Have This Dance?: Hang-Ups

Title:  Somebody to Shove
Artist:  Soul Asylum
Album:  Grave Dancers Union
Genre:  Pop

Hang-Ups

The clock t-t-t-ticks
as I sit here all alone
waiting - just waiting - by the phone.

Paralyzed and entranced
time flys by and yet it seems to crawl
as I'm waiting - just waiting - for you to call.

I need you to wake me from this dream,
pull me from this--just give me a shove
'cause I'm waiting - just waiting - for somebody to love

me.

6 TEMPT

TEMPT
seduce
enamor

she savors the words
meant to entice a night
of pure bliss and perchance love

"awaken strong desires within."

The above is what happens here on ...dodta... when Three Word Wednesday [3WW=>(per)chance, entice, savor(s)]meets the clarity pyramid.  Check out how some of the other talented writers employ these three simple words.

9 Last Call: Boiling Point

Boiling Point

The words stew
bubble and boil
like an unwatched
pot of water
froathing and expanding
'til they spill
over the edge
sizzling and sputtering
from lips unfiltered
burning and searing
those on the other end
causing unintentional
pain and scars
marring much more
than the surface

An Aside:  up until I got to the line "from lips..." I had a completely different thought on were this was going.  But the line just crept in throwing me in a new direction...so I went with it.

1 Time Capsule: P(ain)'s & Q(uestion)'s and Relaxing Beat

Title(s):  P(ain)'s & Q(uestion)'s and Relaxing Beat
Date:  between 09/25/03 and 06/21/04
Setting:  Life after college--during second post-college job
Form:  Alphabet Poem and Reverse Alphabet Poem
--P(ain)’s & Q(uestion)’s
Alliance Built
causing disarray
Every foe
grudgingly harbors
indiscretions (justifiable killings?)
Love means nothing
only pain
Questions rise
surrounding troubles
Unaware
vanity with xenophobia
yields zilch

Relaxing Beat
Zapping your xylophone
            working vibes
Undertones tremble
            swaying
            relaxing quiet people
Overpowering noise
            moves listeners
Kaleidoscopic jangles
            intensify harmonies
            granting freedom
Escaping disturbing cares…

beat away!

Notes:
These two Alphabet Poems are created by each word using the next letter of the alphabet verse every line.  After creating one with ABC order, I thought it might be fun to go for a backwards version with ZXY.

Artifact I:  My first ABC poem--later named.

Artifact II:  My first ZXY poem.

2 Can I Have This Dance?: How much darker will it get?

Title:  Keep Believing
Artist:  Ryan Shupe and the Rubber
Album:  Brand New Shoes
Genre:  Rock

How much darker will it get?
The dawn taunts--just out of reach.
This resolve buried deep within holds strong
waiting for the light to flourish from the outside in,
but how much longer can it possible last?
There is no nightlight here.
Lost in the dark, dreams take hold--
an endless pattern of magic, love, angels,
family, friends and miracles.
But this fight within longs for dreams
to end and reality to see the light of day.
